You Must Have Known, But I Didn't Care

You looked at me with eyes so deep
I saw the truth you couldn’t keep
But I played blind, I let it slide
Walked through the fire with my head held high

Your perfume lingered in the air
A second coat on every chair
The silence told me all you’d done
But I still stayed ‘til the morning sun

You must have known, yeah, you had to see
Every little scar you left on me
But I wore ‘em like a badge I swear
You must have known… but I didn’t care

My pride was paper in the rain
But I kept folding it again
Trying to make a perfect shape
Of something broken I couldn’t escape

Loving you was wild and cruel
Like losing every hand, yet playing cool
You took your aim, you shot me fair
You must have known… but I didn’t care

You must have known I’d never leave
Even with no soul left to grieve
I was the fool who stayed right there
You must have known… but I didn’t care

Now I'm gone, no turning ‘round
I left the keys, I burned the sound
But if you ever wonder where—
You must have known…
But I didn’t care.
